What this is, and who pays for it
A plain account of how this site is put together, so you can judge how much weight to give it.

What this site is
Palisades Fire Rebuilding is a record of how Pacific Palisades is being rebuilt after the January 2025 fire. It compiles permit data, construction progress, cost benchmarks and neighborhood-level detail into one place, written for the people actually making these decisions rather than for a general audience.
It exists because that information was scattered. Permit counts live in one tracker, cost benchmarks in contractors' marketing pages, coastal and covenant constraints in legal filings and local reporting. An owner deciding whether to rebuild should not have to assemble that themselves.
Where the numbers come from
We compile; we do not collect. Every figure on this site traces to a published source, carries the date it was accurate, and links out so you can check it. The primary sources are:
- Pali Rebuild Map — the permit funnel. An interactive tracker built by Palisades resident Kevin Pazirandeh from public parcel, damage and debris-removal records, published by the Palisadian-Post.
- Shovels — structures destroyed and permit-volume analysis for ZIP 90272.
- Westside Current — neighborhood-level permit and lot-sale breakdowns, reporting on LADBS data.
- LADBS and recovery.lacity.gov — official permit requirements and process.
- Cal OES — One-Stop Permit Center guidance and processing timelines.
Where sources disagree, we say so rather than choosing the more flattering figure. Where a number is one month's sample rather than a cumulative total — as with the neighborhood permit counts — we label it, because the distinction changes what it means.
How often it is updated
Figures are reviewed against their sources and refreshed as new data is published. Every statistic carries its own "as of" date, so a stale number is visible as a stale number rather than passing as current. The dataset was last reviewed in full on July 27, 2026.
Who funds this
Farnsworth Builders supports this site. They are a family-run design-build firm in Marina del Rey (CSLB #947797) and one of the contractors actively rebuilding in the Palisades. Pages here link to them, and those links are tagged so they can see the traffic.
We think you should know that before you read anything else, which is why it is here and in the footer of every page rather than buried. There is a full page about who they are including their license classifications and published Palisades projects.
What that support does not buy is the content. The permit data is what the public records say. The cost ranges are what multiple independent Los Angeles contractors have published, not Farnsworth's numbers. The insurance gap figures come from a third-party claim study. Nothing here is written to make rebuilding look easier or harder than it is.
You should interview several licensed contractors, verify any California license directly with the Contractors State License Board, and take what is useful here to whichever builder you choose.
What this site is not
It is not legal, insurance, engineering or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for professional counsel on any of those. Permit requirements change, and the only authoritative answer about your parcel comes from LADBS. Covenant and title questions belong with a California real estate attorney. Insurance disputes belong with a public adjuster or attorney.
It is also not affiliated with the City of Los Angeles, LADBS, or any government agency.
Corrections
If a figure here is wrong or out of date, we would rather know. Corrections can go to Farnsworth Builders at [email protected] or 310-733-7645, and they will reach us.
